Fall Speaker Tour Underway

About 40 University of VA Law students attended a lecture to learn more about “Sex
selection abortion and the future of Roe v. Wade” given by Steven Aden, senior counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).  The September 30th event was sponsored by MEDUVA Law Advocates for Life and is part of the fall Law Students for Life speaker tour.  Lea Patterson, Advocates for Life president, is pictured introducing Steven Aden.  ADF sponsors the prestigious Blackstone Legal Fellowship each year.  (Application deadline is Jan. 4, 2016.)  If you would like a pro-life attorney or professional to come speak on your campus this fall or next spring, let Cathy know.

Medical Students for Life at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, hosted Dr. Freda Bush on October 8, who spoke about social behavior education particularly related to teens. For instance, she explained how STIs can still be transmitted and cause latent infections that go unnoticed until a woman wants to marry and have a family, only to discover she is unable to because the virus has destroyed her internal reproductive organs by then.  Dr. Bush is Medical Director of the Center for Pregnancy Choices Metro Jackson (MS) and the Henry M. Johnson Women’s Resource Crisis Pregnancy Center.  Read a very brief column she wrote in Oct. 2015, STI Risk Taking and Screening: Who’s Responsible?  If you would like to host a pro-life doctor or medical professional on your campus this fall or next spring, let Cathy know.

healthclinics_ADF_1250-1250x650

Two leading pro-life organizations released a map today intended to showcase the thousands of community health care clinics that could step in for Planned Parenthood if it were to lose federal funding.

The map adds to a heated conversation about whether stripping Planned Parenthood of its $500 million annual taxpayer dollars would hurt women’s health care in America, or if women would be better off without it.

US House passes Pain Capable Bill

Today the House of Representatives passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Please see below for a statement from Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America.

“We are so proud that the House has passed the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and moved to ban abortions after 20 weeks gestation, where the preborn baby has been scientifically proven to feel pain. There is no excuse for the now pro-life Senate not to bring the bill to the floor for a vote immediately. U.S. Senators must go ‘on the record’ as voting for or against the horrific procedure of abortion at this stage in a woman’s pregnancy, where the preborn baby will feel every effort to end his or her life. It is inexcusable that the United States is one of seven nations that allows abortions after five months.”
